open waters came from thinking about freedom, depth, and the unknown. While painting, I kept imagining something slowly sinking beneath deep sea water ~beautiful, alive, and completely unseen to mankind. Even though the piece feels dark to me, there’s still something quietly hopeful in it; the idea that things can continue to flourish even in uncertain depths. I wanted it to hold that feeling of surrendering to something much larger than yourself, where stillness itself starts to feel powerful.
