justagirl (sailor moon)
The phrase “I’m just a girl” often carries a dual meaning, serving both as an acknowledgment of societal perceptions and as a subtle challenge to them. On one level, it reflects the common stereotype that categorises girls as less capable, or not to be taken seriously—implying that being “just a girl” is a limitation or a disadvantage.
However, when used ironically this phrase also subverts these stereotypes. It highlights the tension between how society often views girls (as merely delicate) and the reality of their strength, complexity, and autonomy.
I chose to include a poetic diary entry sent to me by one of my sweet followers, as it showcases how girls attempt to navigate expectations and constraints imposed by society. Set against a backdrop featuring Sailor Moon, a symbol of female empowerment (*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈), I created this piece with the intention of emphasising the relationship between resilience and internal struggle. But then again, what am I to know ? I’m just a girl ! !!!! !! ! ! Xxxx૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

just a girl who happens to feel the world a little bit too strong
walking around like i have to shoulder every burden, carrying the weight of the world on my back
with a perfect smile and gritted teeth i walk through in search of a path wholly my own.
