halcyon~days Original
turquoise water~sea foam~white sand~seaweed drifting onto the shore~
This piece began with an image of aquamarine water beneath dark storm clouds, but slowly became something more imagined than real. To me, halcyon~days holds the feeling of the paradise characters dream of in hard times — the place we believe must exist somewhere in the world, yet seems to live most vividly in the imagination. It felt like the kind of refuge we seek when life becomes heavy. I think it’s less like a destination and more like a liminal space we pass through in moments of longing, seeking freedom n relief before returning to the world.
Traditionally the phrase ‘halcyon days’ refers to “a period of calm seas and peace, often remembered as fleeting or belonging to another time.”Likewise, this pieces speaks to a temporary season of peace. beautiful precisely because we know we cannot remain there forever
